found this site while looking to see if there are still folks using glass rods...already got a wealth of info and plan to get back into flyfishing...after
about a 30 year sabbatical...and will start out with the fiberglass ones I already own instead of blowing my retirement budget on graphite

John, welcome to the board and back to your fiberglass. Glass can be a bit easier on retired joints than some of the more modern rod offerings.
Now, be warned, this is a bad place to be on a budget, I watch a lot these days.

Hi John.. I wonder are rods like Ties - and should never be thrown out in case they come back into fashion ? I wonder will we be on a graphite users board 30
years from now ? "People laugh at my 10 foot TCR #7 graphite, but in it's day, it was a canon !!!!"

John,
Welcome aboard, tell us about your old glass rods, what have you got??? I fondly remember my old Lamiglas rods from my youth, we built em from blanks, and always drooled over the Fenwicks.. Keith |

John,
Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders! I'm glad you found us. I hope you are willing to share that wealth of info! I had a "sabbatical" away from fly fishing too, but not three decades worth. I think you will find it comes back pretty quickly. Some skills even come back better than before, probably because we are more patient when we're older. Tom |

welcome back john,
glad to hear you'll be fishing again. there's great therapeudic powers in fishing, but it can also be addictive and all-consuming. enjoy the ride either way. |

The rod/reel I used back then, and still have, is a Wonderrod and Medalist 1494 with a #6 DT. A few years ago I got into acquiring vintage tackle on eBay and it led me to several rods and reels. Among them a Garcia Conolon 4 star 2536-D 7' 11" dry fly action for #6 or 7 wt, A Royal Javelin with no other visible markings, 2 True Temper steel rods, A Conolon Bass action, and a few others I can't remember. Reels include 2 Medalist 1495 1/2, Trump, South Bend, and several really old brass ones. Haven't fished any of them yet but hope to soon. Tom The "wealth of knowledge" I referred to is what I picked up on this forum. Hope to share some of my own once I get back in the game. best to all John |
