Pure Phillipson 3M Scotchply, I have a couple of them, both as fly rods and pack rods, yours fits right in, great rods, every bit as good as all the Scotchply rods, only real difference I can see is that the Orvis wrapped rods are a little fancier, however looking at yours I would guess it was wrapped and decaled by Phillipson for Orvis as one of their earliest glass rods, right along the lines of a transitional Phillipson. It has the grip of the later tip over butt glass rods, but the rest including the reel seat is right out of the Master series, same thing holds true through their early spin fly pack rods, later they wraps turn golden and the seats change to Orvis, so I suspect they were wrapping and finishing Phillipson blanks in house, but yours I think is an early Phillipson OEM supplied rod.
