The change to three-rivet spools was just a bit before that. I have one with Pflueger Corporation on the paperwork, a 1965 copyright on the paperwork, the revised bluish green box, three rivet spool and the style latch medallion that superceded the long-running style with "trademark" in a small central circle. This is very close to the 6 to 3 rivet change, as the photograph of the reel on the front cover shows a 6-rivet spool and the trademark medallion. The paperwork includes a zip code, another mid-sixties change (1964 as I recall) that helps date stuff. I have another, bought new in '62 or '63, Enterprise Mfg paperwork, trademark medallion, six-rivet spool. I don't think the 6-rivets were ever supplied under Shakespeare ownership, unless maybe they came upon some old inventory from Enterprise days. A much simpler explanation would be that the spool on the reel you asked about was changed; I don't know how you could tell otherwise. Heck, I have mostly three rivet spools bought as spares in the late '60s and could easily inadvertently pass on an older reel with one of those spools installed, and then one of my late '60s Pfluegers with a six-rivet on it. I pay no attention to the type when using the reels, and just plunk on whatever spool is handy with the line type I want to use on it.
