Anybody fishing with big glass in salt? |
Lead | |
|
Hi everyone. I'm new to the site and was wondering if anyone was fishing for bigger saltwater species with big glass. Anyone have any 10+ weights and
their respective quarry? I'd love to see some photos of some vintage 10 and 12 weights. Humor me, I'm the new guy. LOL. I love seeing old photos of
saltwater pioneers with big old broomsticks with fighting butts in their hand. I passed up a mint Fenwick 12 weight some years ago, I think it had like a
removable stiffener in the butt or something, and I still kick myself for it. Not that I'd ever even fish it, but it would be cool. I have a nice
Actionrod with a removable butt around here somewhere that I'll have to shoot photos of that I bought for steelhead. Thanks for being patient with the
newbie.

This is the heaviest glass rod I own. Two tips, serial number matched. That's a big Orvis Battenkill spooled with a WF10. One day soon I'll have this rod re-wrapped and address a couple issues with it and it's first major task will be putting a fly in front of a 20lb plus Ohio R. flathead catfish. My first fly rod was a 10wt I built on a white Lamiglass blank back in the mid 70's which I used for bluefish and pollack off the jetties and beaches around the Cape Cod Canal (stripers were pretty rare then). Great photos, Mike. Thanks for posting them! Those guys outfishing you yet? LOL. That little guy has some stylish taste for salmon fishing headwear too.
That's a Great picture of you both! I'll try to snap some photos of that Actionrod, I think I know where it is.

Here is a custom built fisher 13wt. I have a shark fishing trip planned for san diego in a month or so. Actually casts a SA billfish line quite nicely.

I have an SA System 7 glass that I like to fish on the flats here in Sarasota, FL. It's the heaviest glass I currently own, and I use it when the wind is
not too bad, otherwise, graphite works a bit better when the wind is up. It sure is an easy casting rod. I wish I had bought some more when they were
available....oh well, hindsight is always 20/20.

I ahve and do, but nothing bigger than an 8 wt lately. (I don't worry that it won't handle a big striper.)

Steffen builds a 9' and 9'6" nine weight blank. Everyone that has one can't enough good about it. It's on my short list of blanks to get
and have finished out by one of our resident rod builders.
MuddlerOH...bless us with a few photographs of yours in action. Please... |
