I recently won a "Brule" fly rod off ebay. I don't know anything about the rod. I really only bid on it for nostalgic reasons, as the family
cabin is in the vicinity of the Brule River.
Does anyone know anything about these rods?

I'm thinking that's another model made by St. Croix. The Brule may be in the Fiberglass Rods book, which I don't have handy (and fwiw, that book
could use a more comprehensive index.)

To follow-up on my earlier posting, I had the chance to talk with a St. Croix rep this passed weekend at the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival.
He informed me that my rod was most likely manufactured by the Brule Rod Company, which was comprised of two brothers who had left working for St. Croix to start the Brule Rod Co. He said the blank is definitely not a St. Croix. He was pretty certain that the brothers rolled their own blanks. He said they travelled around selling their rods out of the back of a van, marketing themselves as "The old St. Croix," which led to a great deal of confusion amongst consumers whether they were buying a St. Croix rod or not. I'm still digging around to see if I can find further information on the rod company or the brothers themselves. If anyone has any other information, please let me know! Thanks, Andrew |
