Would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions about what (if anything) to do.

Reel Seat Repair |

Just acquired an early Sage GFL rod (Winslow Manufacturing vintage), that's generally in terrific shape. It has a Struble U-1 reel seat, and the aluminum
cap with the threaded uplocking collar is a bit loose on the wood spacer. It will rotate off center in either direction from alignment with the retainer at
the up end in the cork, but it won't rotate all the way around, nor does it pull back much at all. It's probably just fine to use it as it is, but if
it could be re-glued fairly easily without damaging it I'd give that a try.
Would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions about what (if anything) to do. Still fiddling with gear and tying flies until the snow stops cutting into my fishing here in Montana.

bigsky,
Wow! A Winslow marked factory rod. I've never actually seen a Winslow rod, just a rod blank. Could you post some photos if you get a chance? See the post pinned to the top of the Rod Pictures forum for instructions. The last thing you want to do is force the reelseat and break something. I would presume you would wish to simply remove the hardware, clean up the mating surfaces, and reglue with 5 min epoxy. You could try heating the hardware gently with a hair dryer or heat gun. That might be enough to break the glue. Double bagging the reelseat and immersing it in boiling water is another trick I've seen recommended. If the seat won't come off without doing something drastic, you could try dripping a little thin Superglue into the gap between the hardware and the wood spacer. Make sure you mask off anything and everything that should get glue on it. Hopefully enough glue will get into the gap to solidify the reelseat. The last option, and least desirable, is to get new hardware parts from Struble and cut off the old threaded barrel carefully with a Dremel or file. Tom |

Thanks for the input, Tom. I'm thinking I'll just try fishing it as is, and go to plan B if that results in any problem. Sorry for being so slow to
respond, but have been navigating the Yuku photo/PhotoBucket process. With any luck, here are some pics:

My basic Sage addiction revolves around their Light Line series, and this rod resembles the LL in some ways. Appears to have a very medium action, although
it's far too cold and snowy here for me to try casting it yet. Also has the same split ring hook-keeper as the LL's. Older Struble uplocking reel
seat, but still very classic look. Interestingly, there are two stripper guides on the butt section, unusual for an 8' 6" 5 weight.
