sure look like it, anyway.
I'm going to restore an 8383,
and the reel seat *could* use replacement,
if I found the right candidate.
The Varmacs from Rick's rods,
look to be a good, if not perfect match.
And only $9...

learning the intimate characteristics of the fish and streams we fish most."

I don't think they were, most of the varmac seats I have seen have had the varmac name engraved on them. Of course maybe I have seen more and not known it
because they were unmarked. The burgundy colored ones that Rick's has I have most often seen on garcia rods. Both the heddon rods I own have black seats.
FWIW, old reel seats can sometimes be a pain to get off. I just boiled one off and half the anodizing came off with the seat. Good luck. |

Corlay,
I have a 7 foot ProWeight, model 8381. The rod's reelseat is the same diameter and slightly shorter than the Varmac seat from Rick's. The colors are close, but not an exact match. The Varmac seat is higher quality - the stampings are cleaner and the seat has two lock rings. The biggest difference is the Heddon seat has a solid cap that seals the end of the reelseat. The Varmac seat is open at both ends and there is a dark brown rubber button that fills whichever end you chose to fill (you can use it uplock or downlock). If you get some additional items at Rick's to help absorb the shipping, then the cost is only $5.00 each (buy a couple, you will use them over the years). If your rod blank is >7/16" in diameter, the cork from Rick's is a great deal. [Edit: The cork RINGS from Rick's are a great deal... Tom] Tom

The Varmac seats at Rick's are amazingly light. The cork grip that I bought from the same place was not bored straight through the middle, and it had a lot
of filler. So, I don't recommend padding your order with one of the grips.
