I got an email from a related ebay auction asking if I had one of these to replace on a medalist. I do have one on an old one beyond saving. But, I'm away
from home right now. Are they hard to remove or is it just a matter of unscrewing it until it come out? I seem to remember when you loosen them there is a
stopper that will prevent it from being removed. Could be wrong though. Thought I'd check here to see if anyone has removed or replaced one before.

I don't have the instructions with me but you have to pry the metal piece that goes around the screw open, This allows it to slip out. I'll try to dig
out one Pfoots instructions when i get home.

I thought I had some photos, but can't find them right away (can you believe it? - ha)
You have to pry up the retaining prongs until it releases the screw to back out. But be careful, because it will break. When you install the new one, then, you have to bend the prongs back to hold the new screw in place. The whole process is pretty tedious. I would recommend sending it to Bill and let him install it.
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

I second sending it in - that prong will weaken at the bend point and break if you try a couple of adjustments. I had this happen to me with a nice 1495DA.

Thanks all. The drag screw would be coming out of mine and would be placed on a different reel. I just ended up sending the entire backplate, I didn't want
to force the issue of trying to get it out. Out of my hands now. But, thanks for the good info to store away.
