I think the secret is to do your research on what you think might work for you and then have patience in your search. Sooner or later things tend to surface
but you have to be prepared to pony up for the more rare desirable vintage rods.

Hi All;
Most here know what mine is, I don't talk about it any more in this forum due to the increased interest and subsequent price going up on ebay. Waynebh What Wayne said! But, secrets don't last forever. wacokid54 |

Several years ago, before I even found a glass flyrod board, I used to buy Fenwick FF79s on ebay for about $40. I got several because I have always thought
they were their best dry fly taper, were long enough to use about anywhere and had a bit more oomph than an FF70 (another favorite that was never cheap). I
would look for nice ones and give them away to friends who were all wound up in the latest mega-modulus, graphite, snap-stick, technology...usually to positive
effect.
Eventually I found this site back when it was part of Clark's operation....and there were only a few of us there at the time. On that board, and in that audience, I mentioned my positive regard of the FF79 and things changed. My words have come back to haunt me and the chance of buying a mint FF79 for less than even a hundred dollars is beyond hope. But, I stand by them, and if could have only one flyrod among the many I own...it would be an FF79...not the best at everything, but better than most for most things. Fortunately, I have not given all of the ones I bought away, and, I might add....I am much more picky regarding anyone I would consider a "friend". But, as they said in Star Wars..."There is one other..." And, I have never seen that rod mentioned anywhere in any thread...I have 2 of them. Donny |

Berkley stream specialist series. I dont mind saying it because they never came up on the bay anyway. I think there have been 3 in past 8 years and I got 2
of them.
