After seeing the great rods folks on this site are turning out on the batson "tadpole" blanks, I decided I wanted to give it a shot. I picked up
a few blanks and some ferruling stock. Yesterday, I spontaneously decided I needed a break from housework, and I was going to ferrule one of those blanks. In
my haste, I was recalling reading that when installing the spigot ferrule, I would lightly sand the male end of the spigot to ensure a tight fit with the taper
of the tip section, and then just lightly sand the butt of the spigot until in fit through the TIP of the BUTT section. I glued it all up, and admired my
handy-work.
Now, I'm realizing I probably should have inserted the ferrule through the butt of the rod and also made sure that the spigot matched the taper of the butt
section as well.
I understand that dropping the spigot through the bottom of the butt section is the prefered method-my question is the spigot ferrule I installed now
unreliable? I used a liberal amount of quick bond and cleaned up all the excess with alcohol.
Thanks for the input!
