I'm almost too embarrassed to post on this,
but the help of my peers is probably my best bet.

While getting ready to head to McFarland's gathering this weekend,
I pulled-out all my rods, to mark them with some identifying masking tape;
just as a precaution not to get mixed-up with another fiberglass flyrodders rods.
When I pulled-out my Browning Silaflex 222970,
I was shocked. The blank was riddled with light colored spots
all up-and-down it's length, and there was even a bit of fine mold-dust on the cork.
This rod was stored with a bunch of my others, and they all look fine,
so I'm guessing that I must've gotten this one pretty wet the last time I used it,
and then got distracted and did not clean/dry it properly before stowing it away;
and not a long-term storage environment issue.
crap.
I'd post a few pics, but again, it's really embarrassing, so don't ask, ok?
I can;t believe I did something so negligent
really.
crap.
Anyway, I've seen rods that look like this in various ebaY auctions before,
so I'm guessing it's not that rare of a condition? Anyone know of a way to
get the spots removed, without totally stripping the blank? This rod was a pretty minty one,
and the wraps are perfect. No need to mess with them. Just need to clean/restore that blank somehow.
I tried some rubbing alcohol, but that didn't touch it. I might even suspect that the spotting
isn't even on the surface, but somehow under the finish? Is that even possible?
crap.
If anyone has ever overcome such an issue before, and has a fix;
I will be forever in your gratitude.
PS gave me a good excuse to sand-down the O.D. of that oversized Browning cork, though.
