First I would like to say that I love this site. I stumbled across it a few months ago and it has hooked me but good. To date I've only posted about a cheapo rod I picked up last year a garage sale, but I have been reading the site almost every day of this long, and nearly finished, winter here in Minnesota. Unfortunately, I also caught the collecting bug again from this site. I started with 1 fiberglass rod a couple months ago and now have 9, and a few new old reels too. I'll get into some of my other rods later, but today I wanted to ask you guys about my latest find. Yes, I am soo ready to play in some water. Damn Ice!
It's a Phillipson Master 4 piece #MF476 Line hdh #6, with nickel silver ferules. I'll post pictures tomorrow when I get my camera back from my wife's trip. I found it on a online auction site. (Not Ebay) I mainly bid on it for the only things I could see in the photos, a handle, reel seat and Airex reel that I wanted for a 3wt rod I got last summer. The rest of the rod was in a rod sock. I thought it might be a Phillipson due to the reel seat but wasn't sure. I picked it up today and was thrilled to find the Phillipson Master label on the butt section.
The butt , the 2nd section from the butt, and the tip section were all fine, however the 3rd section from the but is broken. (Insert tear here.) whom ever owned it added another ferrule to cover the broken part . To top it of the Airex reel was in well used shape but will clean up real nice except that the pawl is missing. I'll have to find or make something that will work.
My big question is what to do about the mid section that is broken on the rod. I was thinking that if I could find out if the blank was the same as a 2 piece I might be able to find someone with a broken tip and cut a new mid section.
What do you gurus of glass think. I would really love any help or ideas anyone may have. Any info on the rod would be great as well. I haven't been able to scrounge any up. I think I've read every thread on Phillipson's and Wright & Mcgill's on the site. I picked up a W&M 3A not long ago that I stripped last week for rewrapping all of which I learned more about from this site
Thanks for any advice and for the great info this site has. I hope to be able to share more of my knowledge with the group in the future.
Bryan
