Master Guide Posts: 335 (03/24/09 23:12:22) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Hello Everyone, I just received a 9' Sceptre Fibatube blank that I bought in the recently concluded dutch auction. When I receieved it, I was struck by the similarity to the 9' Fisher 9 weight blank I built in the fall. (If you saw it, the one with the finish problems) While I haven't pulled the micrometer out, the tapers seem almost identical when compared side by side. Overall the coloration is close, however, the surface finish is definitely different. Any thoughts on this? Or is it just coincidence? Thanks everyone. K

So Fisher built a replica of their rod factory for Hardy in England. The same processes and technology went into both assembly lines. After the Hardy factory was in operation, I'm sure there was still some consulting and cooperation between the two facilities. As a result, the Fibatube blanks look and feel very much like Fisher blanks. Tom

Your observations make perfect sense without knowing the history, and the history bears them out. The same similarities are evident in the 8 1/2' Sceptre side by side with my '80s JK Fisher 8 1/2' and would more or less hold throughout the series. You could have written en francais as I read French but no longer speak it. I lived there as a NEH scholar in the early 90's but what does that have to do with fishing? I was using my iPhone to post the message and neglected to do a search since it's a royal pain without a high speed connection. I was commending your careful observation as opposed to the scholarly method of going around the block to get next door, or as Thoreau said, "Some circumstantial evidence is hard to ignore, as when there is a fly in the milk." Descartes? Was he that baitcaster that chummed with Ike Walton? Or else I never heard of him.
