Why did you decide to shorten the blank? Do you think the shorter blank had noticeably reduced power?
Your version looks wonderful.

Vlad, ohh, that's nice. Any comments on how shortening affected the action?

I wanted a shorter blank that would be little less cumbersome. When you shorten the butt, you are reducing the lever and moving your hand closer to the
flexing/working part of the blank. This changes the feel of the rod. It doesn't change the action, which is built into the blank (both cut and uncut blanks
will flex the same along the line), but you can say that it reduces the power, since the lever is shorter. You will feel the flex more with the short version,
since the thickest part of the blank is discarded. On the longest casts the rod works fully into the handle and has a semi-para feel to it.
I ended up with the rod that feels lighter in the hand, and yet has plenty of guts for the type of fishing I do with it. I like to feel the fish, and it is alot of fun even with smaller fish. It will cast DT5, but it feels underloaded for shorter casts with it. It feels perfect with #6 line, and I did not feel the need to put anything heavier on it. I do believe that Orvis line I am using is slightly heavier type-it is a compact head version, similar to a bass taper. Thanks, Vlad |

Vlad that is a beautiful build. Thanks for posting that and your thoughts on the cut down Sceptre. |

I seem to recall my purchase of one of the Sceptre rods last spring taking a while to arrive but it did eventually arrive safely. |

Anyone going to make their 8 1/2 ft Sceptre into a four piece?? If yes, and you find some spiggot material (solid white glass), please let me know where/how I
can get some.
Thanks, Lou |

Hi Lou,
Well I decided to bid on a few and one was the 8 1/2ft with grip. Also I decided to give a work out to Perow's suggestion to go to Walmart and pickup a trike antenna flag i.e., about 7ft and $5. Fiberglass, solid, and from what I can learn EXtruded, thats it, but Ive flexed it alot in the yard, Im guessing just as good as a spigot material made for piece but alot cheaper. The mast has almost no taper, but seems to be perfect so I will follow up in the next few days. Im gonna cut mine tomorrow and start making spigots to fit based on that cheapy material. Its almost a matchup for the Fisher/Hardy installed spigot so other than I might have to turn the smallest one for the 1st/2nd section on a drill motor to fit, Im guessing Im ready to go. Previously I have been using solid glass ice rod blanks and solid glass fishing rod blanks. Richard |

Hi Lou,
Well the bike antenna wasnt the trick, well at least not for me, for the butt section ferrule it wasn't nearly big enough. For the third section it required alot of turning in a drill motor to get a good fit into the tip section. The Antenna is just not tapered enough. I ended up cutting up a brand new salt water solid glass spinning blank to use for the Butt ferrule, also needed a few anyway for a couple other rods I had out to ferrule over the last couple of days. Its handy to have around, the bike antenna, but your gonna need a better taper and as they say time is money, its easier to just cut up a white solid glass moderately heavy spinning blank sense the taper is a pretty good match.
