Here is the fly recipe:

Jig Hook Baitifish (Bunker/Herring imitation)

This fly imitates Atlantic bunker-a deep bodied baitfish from a herring family.

Hook: Your favorite 60 degree jig hook with saltwater resistant finish, size 3/0 or 4/0 (Gamakatsu Jig 60 EWG or Eagle Claw 413)

Weight: Folded heavy lead wire/Twiston strip, placed on the top of the shank, far back by the hook bend, whipped and glued in place. This will help the fly ride correctly and enhance the action on the retrieve. Try using a plastic rattle along with the weight-remember to position it on the top of the shank, so that fly would ride hook point up.

Hair: Slinky fiber in different colors blended with angel hair, flashabou or other flash materials of your choice (see below.) Gills: Red fishair or angel hair

Eyes: Epoxy 1/4" yellow Rotate the hook (so it is point up in the vise), and start tying around the middle to front 1/3 of the shank.

We are using the old hi and low tying method/procedure. The color blending will depend on the bait you are trying to imitate. Each bunch of hair blended with the flash material of your choice will be tied in half, folded back and tied down the second time. This will ensure that the hair won't be pulled out. Before tying each bunch of hair/flash down, pull on the ends so that they are uneven. Synthetic materials do not have a taper, and this method creates an illusion of a taper. Measure the length of each bunch to create the profile you are after, with progressively shorter bunches towards the eye of the hook.

Hi tie-materials in order:

White slinky fiber with pearl and opal flashabou (long), under lavender and sea foam slinky with pearl green angel hair, under grey slinky with silver angel hair, topped with gunmetal angel hair. Add some holographic pink and bronze/copper accents on the sides and the top (optional).

Low tie (invert the hook)-materials in order:

Smoke/white slinky fiber (long) with silver and pearl flash under polar bear slinky (shorter) with ice blue/green flash (this creates the deep belly).

Rotate the hook back again and tie in the gills (red fishair), using the same 'tie and fold' method and finish off the head. Glue the epoxy eyes in place with Goop, paint the dot and the top of the head with black marking pen, and protect the head with the coating of epoxy or acrylic, sprinkled with fine glitter.
