I only have about a dozen or so vintage fiberglass rods, but these are my favorites (in order of length and wt):
1. Cortland FR2000, 7', 5 wt 2. Phillipson MF70, 7', 5 wt 3. Phillipson MF70, 7', 6 wt 4. Johnson Profile 800, 7', 6 wt 5. Orvis Fullflex II 7.5', 5 wt 6. Phillipson Deluxe 8', 6 wt I've never cast a modern fiberglass rod but I'm sure the 8ft, 5 wt Tom Morgan Rodsmiths blank will make it onto this list in the next few months. |

Although I only own two fiberglass rods, they're both great casting rods. One that has been mentioned several times is the Fenwick FF806. I fish it with
a Cortland 444 Classic "Peach" DT6F. My other favorite is my Fenwick FF80-4, 8 foot, 4 piece. I fish it with the DT6F also. I have also fished
both rods with the DT6F "SYLK", and I like that line as well. My other favorite rods are bamboo.

In no particular order:
1. Orvis [yellow] Full Flex 7'6" rated 7wt but perfect with a 6wt. This rod casts exactly like the 7'6" Phillipson Epoxite rated for a 6wt. But, I like the Orvis grip better and the Orvis walnut reel seat over the Epoxite cork, helps balance better, so I sold the 2 tip Epoxite. 2. Dwight Lyons [3pc] 8'/5wt. Full flexing yet powerful and plain fun to fish. I've seen people say the rod is heavy but, they must have a different taper or rod cause at 3 1/2oz it's not heavy. 3. Diamondglass [3pc] 8'/5wt. Plenty's been written about this rod. 4. Winston Retro 7'/3wt. Much more feel to it than the 7 '6"/4wt Retro. Sweetest 3wt I've cast. I just wish I could use it more but i don't fish many small streams. 5. Diamondglass 7'/3wt. Lighter tipped than the Retro. 6. Orvis [yellow] Full Flex 8'6"/7wt. I wish I had kept it! Great fun/big casting rod. 7. McFarland [3pc] 8'6"/5wt. My favorite rod! 8. McFarland [4pc] 7'6"/5wt. "Semi-parabolic". Great travel/pack rod. 9. Fenwick FF79. 8'/6wt. 10. McFarland 8'6"/6wt. Best 11th Man...Quiet Loop 7'/4wt. Absolutely the most accurate rod I've ever owned. It's weird but it seems all I have to do is look at my target and this rod places the fly right there. I'd like to find more Orvis yellow Full Flex rods...they're softer and feel lighter than the Golden Eagles which most people seem covet more.

First off this was fun but an impossible exercise. I could not decide on whether to include my wish list and/or just rods I have owned, or had the pleasure to
fish with, in the end I decided on only the rods I've owned. Tom, I agree with you "what only 10?!!". Here are my top 10 rods, in no particular
order.
1. Fenwick FF75 2. Winston 7' 6" 4wt "Stalker" (Fisher Blank) 3. Winston 8' 5wt (SF) 4. Angler's Bookcase, Vince Cummings River Rat RR80 5. Winston 8' 6" 5wt (SF kit rod) 6. Winston 8' 6" 7wt (SF) 7. Winston 9' 9wt (SF) 8. Winston 9' 10wt(SF D Merrick) 9. F Claudio 8' 9" 8wt 10. Fenwick 8' 6" FL102 6 My imagination/wish list is ..... another story. Respectfully rvreclus |

I've never cast a Phillipson that I didn't like. Can't say that for other manufacturers, so, I guess I'd pick 10 different Phillipsons.

When I first read this, I said to myself that I can't respond, I just haven't fished enough rods to have a real opinion on even one rod that's in
the top ten ever, much less ten.
But on reflection, I realized that any final list that didn't include the Lami 7'6" 4 wt. wouldn't be worth my time to read, so I'll definitely nominate that. Others I'll more tentatively advance, skewed to my small stream trout love: Fenglass 5'3" FF70-4 FF756-4 Heddon Thorobred 7'6" 55 Trout Lami 7' 3 wt. MacFarland 7' 3 wt. In the category of "not enough time spent with yet, but maybe": FF79 Fisher 7'6" 2 wt. System 9 I guess I found ten after all. Bob |

Had to think about this a while. Will come as no suprise that I vote for some bigger rods.
Fenwick FF98. This rod just fricken casts itself. A 9wt Bass Bug line and a big popper and I am in heaven with this rod. Berkley Parametric 8'6" 2pc 7wt. What a light, sweet casting rod. For working big buggers or small clousers, this thing is cool. Will deal well with an 8wt if need be. My favorite rod hands down stripping big ugly stuff for the local brown trout, but will still do a fine job with hoppers and dries. Just gonna talk about two. Have lots of other rods I REALLY like, but hard to choose from em all. These two stand out. Keith |

I have used a home-built Fenwick 7'6" 5wt. (which I learn is a FFL755) for many years and it is a swell rod. More recent experience with a
Diamondglass 8' 4wt. and it is also a peach. I would likely soon need to include rods from Steffen and McFarland but have not had enough fishing time with
them yet.

I already replied to this, but in thinking about it, I'd have to change from what little I know about glass rods...I had previously stated that I like my
Steffen 8' 5/6wt the best...now, while it casts beautifully (better than any other glass rod I've layed my hands on), I'd have to go with my old
1953 wonderod for one simple reason: mojo...it simply has it...it has more than my steffen, more than any of any of my bamboo rods (weird,
since I thoroughly enjoy fishing those as well). It just seems that I have my best days when I decide to dust off the ole wonderod just to "give it a
workout"...
so, there it is...mojo ~Randy

I gotta say, I agree with the above, a rod has to have that special something....MOJO if you will, before it is fun to fish with. And those old Wonderods,
red/black, they are full of it!
Gotta love that old Renegage too, I remember when that was about the only fly in my box. Keith |

I think Steffen's have something else, not mojo, more like the magic Willie Dixon describes in "John the Conqueroo"
My pistol may snap, my mojo is frail But when I rub my rod, my luck will never fail
