Ken,
The Gathering is very informal and laid back. Penn's Creek, one of the largest limestone spring creeks in the East, and its class A tributary, Elk Creek are within a stones throw (or two) of the Feathered Hook B&B and troutshop. Two other limestone spring creeks, Spring and Fishing Creeks, are within an 1/2 hrs drive. Late March can be unpredictable, but if the sun shows and the flows are down, I would expect some baetis (#16-20), black stoneflies (#16-14), and black/gray midges (#20-28). John |

Hey All,
Let's assume the conditions will be right for a little fishing, what do y'all do for a license? I suppose PA offers a 1-day, or even a 3-day license? Anyone know what a non-resident license would cost for the season? Also, will they be available for purchase at our gathering? or do we need to make arrangements ahead of time? Thanks... [UPDATE: Ok, I did some online checking. Looks like non-resident 1-day licenses are not valid during the dates of our gathering? (not valid March 15-opening day?) 3-day Tourist is $26 + $8 trout permit. Non-resident season is $52 + $8 trout permit...]

My suggestion being a local, and it is the same advice that I gave my dear friend David Edens from North Carolina, last July gathering is to google PA fishing
license and get a 2/3 day permit ahead of time. Please PM' me or Mike Mcfarland if you have any problems. You really do not want to have this hanging over
your head once arriving in Coburn, as it is a time to fish, eat, cast great rods, enjoy new and old friends, and allow Mike, Jonas, and any proud Central, PA
guys to our little world of fishing. Jonas is simply the best host anyone can find at a fly fishing BB, and I know that he has the best advice for out of PA
guys. I will say this, I am counting down the days for this event, as it is my best time fly fishing(fish or no fish) that I have all year.

Can't wait for the Gathering!
Jeff's advice to get a 3 day license on-line ahead of time makes good sense. Wed. I travel out of country for 10 days and probably won't have internet access (unfortunately not fishing-related either) - I'll check back in with this thread when we return. Really looking forward to seeing Mike, Amanda, Jeff, Bob, Jonas, Duff and others again. I'll bring a different bourbon this year. Regards, Steve |

I don't think Jonas is set up to sell licenses--a quick stop at Wally-world or online would probably be your best bet. A word of advice from a former
attendee, though: bring an awl to put another couple of notches in your belt--Amanda and her sisters can cook.

Sorry to say, I will not be able to attend; my Best Friend and long time Fishing Partner, Al Mason, had a severe stroke on Sunday so my energies and time will
be directed to helping him and his family deal with affairs.
Al, and his Son were also looking forward to attending this year ... I have notified Mike that the 3 of us will not be there this year. Have a good time ... maybe we can make it next year. Ken |

The Rod Gathering is rapidly approaching, but I have managed to iron out the details for the most important part of the weekend; the MEALS.
Friday Dinner: Grilled Salmon or Marinated Chicken Breast (your choice, or both), rice, vegetables of some sort Sat Breakfast: Provided by Jonas. Most likely french toast. I am sure there will be bacon involved. Sat Lunch: Tacos (sandwiches also available) Sat Dinner: Fillet Mignon, Salad, Scalloped Potatoes Sun Breakfast: Same as Saturday Sun Lunch: Chili (sandwiches also available) We will also have homemade pies, cookies, and other desserts throughout the weekend. Make sure your belt has a couple of spare notches. If anyone attending has any special requests, hates salmon and chicken, has a food allergy, etc., just let me know and we can make special arrangements. It is absolutely no problem, just let me know. Since it will be getting dark earlier than the summer gathering, we will be eating earlier (probably around 7:00). The weather has been warming a little and as of now the water is looking great. Lets keep our fingers crossed for good fishing. We have had a few cancellations due to work, helath issues, etc. so we do have a few spots available. If you are interested in attending just PM me. |

In addition to myself, my wife Amanda, and her sisters Pam and Jessica, we also have the following staying for the weekend:
Saltsh JASTrout and guest Duff Bob4st and two guests jgester Jeff R and guest Kinzua (possibly) So far, we have the following visiting on Saturday: Corlay Flyfishingshaman Wayfinder and two guests Tom W. Remember, there is no charge to stop for the day, have lunch, and meet everyone. Everyone is welcome. I hope to have 8 or 10 rods on hand including a few new designs. For those who are considering ordering a rod and are not sure which taper would be best, this is a great chance to cast a wide variety of rods. I've got the air tix purchased and a car rented. I should roll in Friday afternoon and I'll be leaving mid-day Monday. The Feather Hook was more than
willing to accommodate me on Sunday night also (hopefully, I'll be able to fish a bit Monday before I leave).
The way airlines are now, I'm only bringing one rod case. At the moment, I have these rods stuffed in the case: Sage S-glass SFL580, an 8 foot, 5/6 weight Phillipson Master MF76L, a 7'6" 4/5 weight Tenryu Benett, a Japanese 7', 4/5 weight (more of a 4 really) Quiet Loop VF 663, a 6'6", 3 weight Lami 7', 3 weight Tom |
