I've been thinking that a nice, short pack-rod
would be a fun one for me to have this year,
to use on the little creek that runs though my town.
(Class-C, stocked with ~3k brown trout annually...)
There are some foot paths that parallel the stream for most of it's fishable length,
And it might be fun to leave home on my mountain bike,
and access the stream and jump from run/pool to run/pool that way, I think.
I was wondering what options are out there, in terms of classic rods?
I'm thinking a 6'0"-6'6" 3/1 4-5-6wt. (preferably a 4wt....)
I don't think I've run across such a configuration before;
but I wasn't paying special attention either.
I normally disregard "pack rods", in general.
If an economical, classic rod like this isn't out there;
the other alternative is to build. If anyone has a recommendation for a blank to build, I'd appreciate that, too.
I'd love to do a Riffle for this, but they are only 2/1's, right?...
The Lami Spring Creek would also be a good fit, but it's also a 2/1, yes?...
The Diamondglass GLR703 is a nice option (if I could find one....) but I'd like to stay sub-7'0" (for easy portage), and I'm not sure about a 3wt...
The Lami honey is offered in a 6'6" 3/1 3wt. A little lighter line than I'd want, but that may be my only economical (sub-$100) choice?
Any others?
Thanks,
Corey
