This is a great thread and glad to add an entry as I can see that we can all SEARCH for areas we might be visiting and fishing for some advice...
I live and fish around Columbia, SC, including Lake Murray by boat and the lower Saluda River below it for trout by both wade and kayak and float tube fishing. Also, we have a smallmouth fishery that has developed in the midlands of South Carolina in the Broad and Congaree Rivers, much to the confoundment of our fisheries biologists as they thrive in our middle 80's water temps in the summer! Apparently they moved downstream from cooler waters, adapting as they came; and, have really dominated the largemouth which are not caught often now. I grew up fishing the Santee Cooper Lakes from my hometown of Charleston, SC where salt water fishing is the big attraction, though there are plenty of bass and bream in the fresh or brackish waters of the 'Lowcountry' of SC. Also, I fish the upstate SC trout waters, especially the Chattooga River, and have 'creek freaked' most all of the smaller streams. I buy and use an annual non-resident's license for NC where their Delayed Harvest trout streams are the big lure - offering lots of larger trout through the Nov-May catch and release period. And I also venture to southwest Florida each season with my wife where she shells the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva while I chase their saltwater fish, especially snook. I chase all of these with graphite, glass, and bamboo with the graphite dominating in the salt, glass and bamboo for the trout and smallmouth and other warmwater fish. Gotta have lots of toys, right?!
