That top pic looks like a modern Steffen right down to the scrawled inscription. Really cool Scotts, thanks for the pics.

...Hello Duff... long time since Mike McFarland's gathering in Spruce Creek... dang, you have one of the best collections of Scotts... how about driving up
to Coburn, PA this season?... I want to introduce you to a buddy of mine, Jim Downes... he's crafting bamboo rods up there on Penns Creek by The Feathered
Hook... once you're hooked on boo you'll want to sell me alllllll your Scotts... gotta love them Scotts!... particularly the yellow blank...

Nice! That is the same color as the rod I asked about in another thread, I'm thinking about picking up one as a blank but would love to find one as a factory rod. Know anyone selling? |

those all are really great looking rods. the scott pictures are much appreciated. i'm really looking forward to mike mcfarland building up my yellow F79.
he's wrapping it in antique gold. hopefully i'll be adding my pic here in a few weeks.

Tonemike, I think you'll really like that F79. I have a brown one which works perfectly with a DT-4. I really like the way Scott left no doubt as to
which line to use on a particular rod.

Mike, you'll love the antique gold, I've been working on mine, I used the same color, the pics aren't great but I'll need one more coat of
varnish.
It's a 70/5 from what we think may have been a prototype glass blank, it's translucent with a green hue. Sweet casting rod. I wish my building ability was better. |

hey duff and fingernail,
thanks for the pix. yes really i do like the look of antique gold. kinda looks like yellow on yellow. i've got a DT 4wt sylk line already spooled on an abel creek 1 that ought to balance it nicely. per my request, mike is putting the struble D1 downlocking reel seat and some type of well mottled light wood insert on it. probably spalted maple or spalted crabapple. i told him i like a larger grip and to keep that in mind as he shapes it however he likes. i didn't really have the money now to afford such a rod, so i dug into my closet to find a few rods that i don't use too much to cover the cost. and though i've never owned a rod that mike mcfarland built, i fished cameron's 8' spruce creek. i am very excited to own a san francisco era scott rod built up by mike. |

Those yellow Scotts look an awful lot like Mario Wojnicki's current glass rods -- more (to me) than resemblance to the Lami honeys everyone thinks Mario
uses for his blank source. And Mario used to work at Scott. Hmmm...
Never corner a
critter meaner than you.
