Hello everyone, I
just found a great old Wheatley fly box on e-bay and it had several older patterns in it. I would love to tie this one. Ican't find it in any of my books
so I could use your help. Really don't want to ruin it by reverse engineering. This is what I think the materials are:
Hook:2x wet fly Limmerick bend, upturned eye
Body: Heavy squirrel belly or amber colored thread or floss(multi stranded) if it is floss, it has no sheen, maybe due to its age.
Wing: Two matching Partridge coverts coming together like a tent on top.
Hackle: Very thickly hackled; looks like maybe furnace.
Head: Right behind the eye it looks like maybe two turns of peacock hurl. Then whip-finished in yellow between the hackle and the hurl.
This may be a local pattern somewhere. Like I said, I've never seen it before but have been intrigued by it since I found the old fly-box. I would love to find out what it's name is and get the pattern for it if I can. Any help from the group would be appreciated. Fishbiscuit
