Try a Teeny T-series line, and you will never look back. I fish T-130 and BS-100 with wet flies all the time (and TS-200 in big water, TS-250 and TS-350 in the salt).
In warmwater fishing, I fish these lines with streamers almost 100% of the time.

For swinging wet flies, you work the rod tip combined with the current to control the depth.
I can fish riffle water with them, or I can fish the gravel bar tailouts coming out of 8'-deep holes.
This is closest to answering your original question. The lines are very thin and have very low drag in the current, but the tension you put on the line and drag from the current combine to lift the line and fly. Swing and lifting the rod tip control the lift- deadly technique during a caddis or baetis hatch, especially at the tailout of that 8' deep hole.

Sinking tips were made for deep nymphing in chutes, and that's all they're good for. They stink to cast - they hinge when you're trying to cast them, and they hinge when you're trying to fish them.

The original Teeny lines, T-series lines (TS-series and BS-series) are not tips. They are shooting heads spliced to thin running line. They are casting (really, shooting) wonders. They're great to high-stick and swing, as a sinking-tip was made for, but they're also great to cast, and are the most natural presentation of any swimming creature at any distance. And because of that belly, you can also read how deep you're fishing them.

I use a floating line for dries or indicator nymphing in coldwater, for poppers/sliders in warmwater, or sight-fishing less than knee-deep on the salt flats.
Knee-deep in the salt flats I use intermediates (neutral density or slime lines).
The rest of the time I am fishing a Teeny line.
