A few months ago I thought a neat way to get through the winter doldrums might be to put together a couple fly tying contests to get our members thinking about
fishing and show off a few interesting flies from the vise.
This first contest will be for STREAMER flies...with a second contest coming in early spring for WARMWATER flies.
Being impressed by the custom leather fly wallets of Marc Crapo, I emailed and asked him if he'd be willing to provide one of his creations as a prize for a fly tying contest on this site. To my surprise Marc Crapo wrote back that he be glad to sponsor the contest and began work on a Fiberglass Flyrodders leather fly wallet which is now finished and pictured below.
THE RULES:
1. Contest begins January 18th and fly submissions will be accepted through February 16th.
2. All contest flies will be sent to me where they will be organized and photographed for voting at the end of the contest. Please PM for address to use.
3. Each tier may submit ONE fly for consideration.
4. Only flies submitted from FFR members will be considered in this contest.
5. All flies submitted must be recognized as a STREAMER type fly. A streamer fly submission should fall within this definition - "A fly with a feathered or haired wing with a shape and action intended to represent a bait fish."
6. At the end of the submission date, all flies will be organized into a photo poll for voting. For fairness, no names will be placed with the fly photos for voting, much like how was done with the Logo Contest several months ago.
7. When voting ends and a winner determined, Marc Crapo will put the winner's initials on the backside of the Fiberglass Flyrodders leather fly wallet, and all flies submitted will be sent to the winner as well. WINNER TAKES ALL!!!
