Found an old Eagle Claw |
Lead | |

I never knew I had it. I remember some old stuff I had stashed up in the barn years ago. Today while we were throwing some hay to the cows, I gave a look and
found an old 6'6" Eagle Claw still in the plastic wrapper. It is just about perfect, dirty grip is all you could tell of any usage. Even the butt cap
is clean and scratch free. I honestly know nothing about those rods, other than they were low dollar stuff. This one has metal ferrules and a brown blank. Any
idea of the vintage. Action is typical lopsided, 6 wt butt section with a 4 wt tip.

Ha, I should have looked at the picture above. | ||

I think mine is the one on the bottom.

Dave, the Featherlight, although cheap, is really a pretty nice small stream rod. They have been made for years and are still made today. If yours is like the
one in the above picture, I just bought one like it. If it says Eagle Claw and has the metal emblem on the grip it is probably from the early to mid 60s I
believe. Most W&M/Eagle Claw rods are tip heavy. I was pleasantly surprised that this one isn't.

Yeah, it's just like the one in the picture, same wraps has the emblem on the grip. Honestly it is just about mint but for normal grip discoloration. I
can't remember where it came from. Must have been my dad's. He never fly fished in his life and seldom fished at all. Wish I had known about it when I
was in college, which is probably when he got it. I would have loved it as a small stream rod, but then I had a whole bunch of nice Lamiglas rods I had built
back then that were really nicer rods. Nice to find something old in good shape, though. I'll add it to my Wonderod collection.
The tip is nice, but the butt section is way way too powerful. Funny because later stuff with butt over tip configurations are the other way around, I think. |

My local WalMart had Featherlights on sale for $9 this fall. They were new ones with the cheap plastic reel seats, but at that price I just had to get one.
