Well since I last posted on this, a couple of you guys got me thinking about braided line (thanks jgstar & DMVotaw), so I bought some Fireline in smoke color in 6 & 10lb test and Crystal in 8lb. I've been fishing it with lures on my UL and light power fast action St. Croix Premiers (graphite) and the 10lb on my Browning Silaflex 6'6" medium glass rod (see this post: http://fiberglassflyrodders.yuku.com/topic/7348 ) What a diference! Now I know mono has advantages in some situations, but what I've seen and felt so far has been great. With braid I feel every bump and tap, able to even tell the difference between weeds and rocks. I haven't hooked up with anything on the graphites, but did catch two Steelheads on the glass rod.The one thing I did on Saturday with the 10lb on the Silaflex was used a 3' section of 8lb Gamma flourocarbon leader tied to a swivel to the Fireline. I hadn't tried that with the other rods. Did it make a difference? I don't know, but I will continue to do it.
Tom.
