Me too....what is the material for the grip?....rubberized cork?....some sort of burl? I wonder how it would hold up?
Thanks for the pics. David |

Custom Stonefly rod, (McFarland blank) | ||
|
The best thing to do is contact Jim at Stonefly Custom Fly Rods for details on the type of burl cork he used in this rod. Jim has built several rods for me,
and lives just down the road. This is real handy! I went over to his shop to see how a bamboo rod's progress was going, when he showed me some of the
fiberglass rods he had built........Well that did it, I just had to have one. Jim has a generous supply of quality reel seats, winding checks, stripping
guides, thread colors, cork, and all the necessary hardware to choose from. He has sacks and sacks of neat cork. We picked this burl cork from a color that
caught my eye. Building a rod with Jim is such joy, as we can go through his supplies and choose just the right combination to make the rod a truly custom
master piece. This rod cast as smooth as butter! KERMIT

Thanks to you all for your praise! I haven't been on the forum for a while, so Kermit had to tell me about his posting the pictures. He has done a great
job of photographing the rod, and I am proud to add another rod to his great collection of fly rods (he also has a great collection of flyfishing books).
Kermit is a great guy and an avid fisher. We get together regularly to talk about fishing (primarily) and I'm waiting for a blank to arrive to build
another rod for him. The grip on the McFarland rod is made from Mudhole Tackle's (www.mudhole.com) burl cork rings. They're available in 0.5"
and 0.25" width in a variety of colors.
