And oh boy, you should see what was in there ... when I finally got to it. It's about the prettiest rod I now own. I cannot remember when I received a rod through the mail that actually looked better than the photos. Thanks, Crusty Bugger!

Bomb-proof packing! |

When I bought the Heddon Pal Pro Weight 8383 from Crusty Bugger I asked him to really bomb-proof the packing as I thought by the look of the rod it was like
shipping the Mona Lisa. Well ...

Now THAT looks like a packing job! I like the way it is centered in the square tube.
thanks Dennis |

Get one of Andy's builds sometime. I've had supposedly delicate electronics show up in worse. But that does show a profound trust in our mail/parcel
shipping choices.

if you tried to carry that through the airport, they would arrest you

Heddon's deserve good treatment | ||

Glad to read that the Heddon rod arrived safely. Heddon glass rods deserve to be treated like a precious objet d'art .
Best wishes from the home town of James Heddon and Sons. Gary |

Anything to make the customer happy, Duff!!! Itsn't that a pretty rod? I try to take good pictures but I don't care if I had the most tricked out photo
studio known to mankind and the skills of Ansel Adams, it's not gonna do that rod justice. I told people there's not a dog in the bunch of rods I have
for sale and I meant it. Glad you like it.

Wow, that guy is obsessive.

I've read enough posts over on Clark's and here about rods smashed beyond recognition that I don't think it's obsessive at all Dave. I
don't normally take pictures of packages that show up, but you should see the way Bulldog packaged my new Orvis Fullflex. It took the better part of 1/2
hour to get through the tape and packing material...Thank you Ron!

Duff...the Heddon Superlative #770 arrived from CrustyBugger and my experience was much like yours. CrustyBugger can certainly pack a fly rod...
...and I just couldn't be happier with the Heddon Superlative #770. |

I received a Phillipson Johnson Profile in the mail a couple of days ago. To mail the rod all the seller did was tape the top and slap a mailing label on the
rod tube and take it to the post office. To make matters worse the seller put the wrong zip code on the address label. So when I received the rod there were
about five address and postal labels on the rod tube as well as some tape that was very difficult to remove.
After seeing the rod tube I expected the rod to be damaged and was planning on returning the rod. When I finally got the tape removed enough to open the tube top the rod was pretty dirty and the ferrules were too tight, but not damaged. I cleaned it up and it looks sharp now and the ferrules are perfect, so I'm going to keep it. I was even able to get the rod tube cleaned up pretty well too. Those bright colored micro-towels that you can get pretty cheap at Wally-World and other places are just amazing for cleaning rods. All I do is get them wet and they do of good job of cleaning cork handles and in this case mailing labels from rod tubes. |

"To mail the rod all the seller did was tape the top and slap a mailing label on the rod tube and take it to the post office" I had the same experience this past spring but was fortunate that the seller was in the same state at least and got the address correct. Mine was a Phillipson labeled Orvis and those tubes are fairly soft or thin compared to say a Landmark tube. Mine was probably in excellent shape before the seller mailed it as the rod was new unused. I had same expectations as you when pulling it out of the tube. Luckily the only issue was a slightly flattened stripping guide. You don't think you have to spell his kind of thing out to a seller until it happens. Glad to hear the rod came thru it ok! |

Howard, if you cut through the clear end of my packing, I thought it would all slide out.

Sorry Ron I wasn't smart enought to figure that out until I cut and unwrapped, cut and unwrapped, cut and unwrapped...

Ron the cardboard tube survived and will be recycled as long as they keep coming back to me.

Ok, the Japanese outer tube was cool - but I was talking about the maroon, varnished rod tube.

The maroon varnished tube made it through the trip as well. Very cool job that someone did with that tube...

thanks - varnish turns those old cardboard tubes into a nearly bulletproof composite.

I learn so much from the members of this board.
If you don't mind me asking, what do you varnish the cardboard rod tubes with? |
