I also don't have a catalog that lists this rod, so if someone could tell me what line theirs uses, I would appreciate it.

I finally was able to snag a Wright & Mcgill Green Hornet 7 1/2' fly rod. This is the brown trevarno glass with the ns Granger reelseat. It's in
pretty incredible condition for it's age. I know from previous posts that some of you have a GH with the green aluminum reelseat. Could someone post a
photo for comparison purposes.
I also don't have a catalog that lists this rod, so if someone could tell me what line theirs uses, I would appreciate it. |

My Green Hornet is an 8 footer with the same Nickel Silver reelseat as yours. When I bought it a seven weight line was recommended by forum members for it, and
it cast very well with that line.

Thanks AG. I sort of thought it would probably be a 7, but one can always hope.

Howard, I like the rod, when you can let us know how it casts.

Tim, it's really funny. I don't think anyone made as interesting looking rods as Wright Mcgill. They sure are colorful. This is one I've wanted for
a long time and waited patiently looking for one in excellent condition. I'm pretty sure it's going to cast pretty well because I've not found much
difference between any of the tobacco glass rods. They are all tip heavy and need a heavy reel to balance and really do justice to them. One surprise I had was
how light in hand it is. Of course it is only 7 1/2' but I expected it to weigh a ton because it is so old. If the wind stops blowing today I may have a
chance later on to get out for a bit.

Every time I see a Green Hornet WM on ebay or here, I think of the really cool ice fishing rod that got lost, found and broken in Grumpy Old Men. The handle
was in the shape of a fish. Howard, are you still fishing, or have you packed it in for the winter? I think I am done for a while, and looking forward to
going to the Arkansas below Pueblo Reservoir with you in December or January, if you want to tag along. Have you ever tried that fishery in the winter? We
can do a WM day. I will bring my Sweetheart, you can flex the Green Hornet!

cofisher...that is a beauty. A seven weight? I thought that was a five weight? You certainly have a lot of seven weights around the house.

Howard, I agree with you on the 71/2 WM rods - the Sweetheart I own is a little tip heavy but compared to some fairly light. I just purchased a 7'
Sweetheart and I'll be interested to see what difference there is between the two lengths in how they feel.

Another thing that is strange to me is the 1983 Sweetheart I've got. It's as light as any graphite rod i've had and it's still tip heavy and
there is really only a very slight difference between how it casts compared to my other WM rods. It's as difficult as any other in finding a reel that it
balances with for me. I'd be interested in knowing what you think Tim.

Howard, maybe its the taper that gives them that tip heavy feel? I just received the rod I bought last week. Its a 7', no. 2A-7 & labeled a 6 weight.
Side by side with the older hammer handled 7-1/2' Sweetheart.......it feels exactly the same. Little tip heavy even though the longer rod is most likely a
7 wt. I think what makes these rods a little heavier than other rods is the thickness of the glass. It would be interesting to keep track of some of the tapers
just to see what was going on when these rods were built. Don't get me wrong here, the WM rods have a little heavier feel to them but I am glad that I own
a couple, I enjoy casting & fishing them. The rod I just receieved should be perfect to fish for smallmouth with on some of the Ozark streams and I plan to
restore it. It does need some help.

Howard, congratulations on your new Green Hornet, yet another W&M I didn't even know existed. I love fishing with my little collection of W&M
Featherlights and Trailmasters. Your Green Hornet is a really neat looking vintage rod too, with plenty of history behind it I'm sure. Let us know how it
fishes, or lawn casts, and what reel you match it with, ok?

When I got my Green Hornet it wasn't identified as such in the auction ad even though it was printed on the rod.
I didn't know it was a Green Hornet until the package arrived in the mail and I took it out of the tube and looked at it. It was a very pleasant surprise!!! |

AC does it have the Granger reelseat or the green aluminum?
Tim, I think all W&Ms would be perfect for bass, pike or carp.
Mike if it doesn't snow tonight I should be able to get out tomorrow.

what a great board-I also found a nice green hornet only yesterday when out hunting (for fishing stuff). This one is a 8 1/2' 3 piece.I understand the need
for a heavy reel-this one has a nice DAM 55 reel.I don't know what weight lines on it but it throws a heavy popper pretty far. What line weight would you
use on this one? I also found a shakespeare ugly stick wonderrod #fy1100. 8"6". This ones black and it is ugly.

Wow, I don't know where you guys are getting those Green Hornets but it took me 2 years to find one in nice original condition. Arley I would start with a
DT6 or WF7 and go from there.

I love both Green Hornets and my wife says my fishing partner Rick and I are just like the movie. Maybe I'll buy that one for him. Mine came with original
sock but I'm always surprised if a tube shows up. So, I've got a new tube on the way.
