I did some researching for some late-Fall patterns to try in my area,
and came up with 2 nymph patterns to try:
Green Caddis
Little Black Stonefly
So, I attempted my take on the
Greene Caddis
#12 scud hook
silver bead-head
60 black thread
2 strands of green floss (ribbing)
Hare's Mask (natural color) (dubbing)
Peacock Herl (thorax collar)
Black Saddle (hackle)
I approach new patterns a lot like I approach new cooking recipes:
do some research to find a bunch of variations on the intended dish,
then take the parts you like from each, and use these bits as a palette
from which to create your own version.
I didn't really have suitable black-colored hackle that was short enough,
so on my first attempt I decided to cut it down, short and scruffy to enhance the peacock herl collar:
(please forgive my macro focusing skills!)
I was a bit heavy in my final thread wraps and whip behind the bead,
but otherwise this one look "buggy" enough for me.
I like the combination of scruffy Hare dubbing, wrapped with floss.
for my second attempt,
I used the very tip of a hackle,
and, although still a bit long-ish, I think this should work:
I'll test these out on Friday, hopefully;
and see how it goes....
