Just wanted to introduce myself to the board. My name is Jay Crumbacher. I currently live in North Western PA in the Neshannock Creek Watershed (although I may be moving to the Shenandoah region of VA shortly). I fly fish small brush covered freestone streams for brookies and browns. I've always used graphite fly rods for small streams in the past, but I've given up on finding a graphite rod that loads well and has good line feel in close quarters. I usually fish rods in the 5' to 7' length range. A friend of mine let me try a 7' 3wt Diamondglass and I loved the line feel on short casts. Casts like cane but without the extra weight. I'm considering my first fiberglass purchase in a 7' 3wt from the following builders and models:
Prairie Drifter Deluxe
Diamondglass (are they still being made?)
McFarland Spruce Creek
Steffens Brothers
Any input from anyone who has fished these rods would be greatly appreciated!! Any other rod suggestions would also be appreciated!!
Tight Lines,
Jay
