Just so no one mis-interprets my post, I am not slamming Hardy. I have always been a fan of Hardy equipment. I just thought this was an interesting look at the way our beloved fiberglass was initially accepted (or not accepted) as a material for rods. I know they made a lot of great rods over the years. I was just wondering if anyone has ever had or heard of any that were exceptionally bad that might have been one of the rods referred to in the film.

The movie is excellent and has a lot of footage of rods and reels being made both in the past as well as modern times. There is even a short section showing glass rods being made including the glass cloth being cut and rolled on the mandrels. For anyone who will be at my rod gathering next week, I will bring my copy to watch while we are there.

I am not sure if any of the book dealers here in the US carry it. I ordered it off the site and it shipped from the UK. Arrived really quick, but with the exchange rate I think it cost me close to $50. I probably should have looked around a little more but I watched a couple of the trailers and got all revved up and ordered it. Was well worth it though in my opinion. It is a little slow if you are not into classic tackle (don't expect the wife and kids to watch it with you) but it has some amazing content from the original Hardy factory. Shows the bamboo beveller in action, the fly tying factory in full swing, has interviews with past employees, etc. It even has a some clips from old Hardy films showing one of the Hardys salmon fishing. He has this huge salmon on and during some of the runs his ghillie would take the rod and fight the fish so he didn't get his dress shoes wet. The part that amazed me was how many people worked there and the footage of them building rods. It was quite an operation. It is a really neat film. The ending is a little sad (not "Old Yeller" sad, more like "American Graffiti" sad) but I guess times change. I would definitely recommend it.
