I just swapped for this Hardy - Scientific Anglers 150, which has a reel foot that is part of the reel body, not an attached seperate piece.
This reel has the same size spool and they work on my Marquis Salmon 1, though that reel has rim control and this one doesn't. (the Salmon 1 spools won't go onto this 150).
It also has the same round spring with single pawl, which seems pretty weak on the Salmon 1, but on this one it has a very substantial and loud click. The spring on this 150 looks like it has been bent into an oblong shape but when I tried to do the same on the Salmon 1, it did not seem to make a difference. (I understand there is a metal spring enclosed in the plastic hoop, accessible by taking it apart - and also that some Marquis Salmon reels have the regular duplicate Mark II double pawl drag which I think preferable).
Two questions:
What are some other reels, especially Hardys, with the integral reel foot?
Has anyone else messed around with these hoop springs - can I put a severe bend in it to beef up the Salmon One without fear of breaking it.?
