I was fishing the pond last week and looked down next to my bag to see a small green/gray damsel nymph. Stupid me, didn't takes it's picture but, I put this tie to work to see how it would pan out. Scud hook, chain eyes and olive Ostrich.

I got the idea for this one off another forum and I am so sorry I don't recall the tiers name.

Just ostrich herl? Cool! How do you get the "wing" to stand up like that?? And, have you fish tested it yet?

I tie in the eyes first...todays batch I used the plastic green dumbells. Then tie in a bunch of ostrich for the tail, wrap it half way up the hook or just
behind the eyes. Tie in another bunch, and with the scud hook they do stick out when dry but wet it gives that wiggly motion that damsel nymphs do so well. tie
off that clump behind the eyes then pull the stems from the second bunch over between the eyes. Tie off at eye of hook, then figure 8 the body ones around the
eyes and tie off. Everytime I have used this fly it produces. I try it at the pond with a TYPE II wet cell and just about every cast. Then I tried it on a
9' leader with an indicator set at 7' on the Snake by Shelly, Idaho and 19" Small Mouth Bass.....I know, I didn't know there were Bronzebacks
in there either, but I guess they are planting them all over because of the popularity. Easy to tie, I say try one.

I have to agree......looks and sounds easy. What size scud hook? Or, exactly what hook are you using? I am gonna give it a try. I bet the plastic eyes
give it a nice sink rate, without too much "jigging" up and down in the water, which I don't think damsels do.

Nice tie! I've had a lot of luck with a similar pattern, except all marabou. I think it was a Shane Stalcup pattern it was based on. Here's another
damsel I like-
Hook: 2XL Nymph Hook, size #8 Tail: Marabou Abdomen: Marabou Thorax: Marabou Wingcase: Swiss Straw Legs: Ruffed Grouse Eyes: Mono or Bead Chain |

Just for the heck of it, I downloaded that damsel fly image
(nice-looking fly) and then loaded into gimp (general image manipulation program, which is free) and then clicked "color->levels->auto" ....which balanced out the orange incandescent light. You can do that in the camera too (set to incandescent light) before shooting the photo, but after works too. http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
