$ 3.95 at Cumberland Farms today down from a high of $3.98. Many many filling stations are selling regular for $3.99. We are extremely fortunate in that my
wife and I live very close to wour jobs. She walks and I ride my Mountain Bike to work most days; haven't put gas in the tank in over two weeks and there
is still a third of a tank left. Stripers are in Casco Bay so good fishing is close at hand.

Yesterday at the Sam's Club in Lone Tree, CO (southern suburb of Denver) I paid $3.79.
You might say "that is a low price" but as the Duke said in El Dorado, "It don't help much". wacokid54 |

Hi guys an unfortunate update, went down today to fill my 5 gallon can for my weed eaters and chain saws, finally finished today what I wanted about 300%
beyond the requirements for the forest service but sense Ive nearly been burned out before I am very careful now. Anyway a long story short, Southeast
Sierra's Central California is now at $4.49.9 for regular unleaded, we are currently running $.03 above the cheapest stations in Bakerfield for
transportation cost the 150 miles round trip to deliver here. I have been told we will peak above $5 before the end of the month, great for the long 4th of
July weekenders trying to take a little vacation. The Forest Service last year increased camping fee's 100% locally from $7.50 per campsite to $15.00,
reservations mostly required, they book solid with nearly 500,000 visitors on holiday weekends, but this year the bathrooms will be closed, the trash cans are
gone, and the pickneck tables removed. They wanted to remove the fire pits, but just didn't get it all done, it was all party of US Forest services
downsizing. So Im gonna expect alot of problems this holiday weekend. They did increase the first offense littering fine from $500 to $1000 and Im told the
local authorites will have every officer in the field dawn to dark writting tickets. We have already had two major fires within 10 miles, and fire season
doesn't start till tomorrow. I did have all the local guys from the fire camp up for Pizza and soft drinks tonight, something my brother in law next door
and my two immediate nabors and I fund now, pizza is kinda cheap up here as are sodas and the local guys when they are not fighting fires like the interaction.
A big bonus for us is they all know who we are and where we live, it helps and only costs us about $100 each, money very well spent. I suspect its gonna be a
way bad year. Anyway gas prices are soaring here, Ive heard some crazy things lately from some people who have proven right. I hope not.

Hello
Richard the way you describe your little piece of heaven I am surprised you don't have a burro ? Just kidding but I wonder how many miles you get per gallon with a burro. Tight Lines and Joking Loops Andy M |

Hi Andy, yea its getting to be crazy with the gas prices here. Im honestly thinking electric. Two ways, one of those two seater highbreads for highway where
you can carry a cleanex box as lugage. But for local stuff and local off road an electric dug buggy basically. Back just before I retired the City of LA
through a "test" contract with Cushman I believe or perhaps a Japanese (Dihotsu) Company partnered with them, was suppling our mechanics with what
looked like a full sized volkswagon dug buggy, but where the back seat was it was turned into a 4ft by 4ft mini pickup bed (over the battery area). Had a three
speed automatic/manual shift transmission and some form of power generation returning energy to the battery with something attached to the wheels or axles. The
mechanics liked them so well they converted the golf cart wheels and tires to larger ATV offroad style with wide mud and snow tread. Those little suckers were
powerful, just like a real ATV or dun buggy not a golf cart. Batteries would easily last the whole day although they were not being run the whole 8 hours,
however they did have hour meters on them so we could report actual battery life and recharge time. Of course we had charging stations everywhere so if you had
a problem you just pluged in at your next stop for quicky charge.
In any case it was found that they got several hours of running time on a full battery charge and of course mechanics' being mechanic's there was a lot of experimentation including "adjustment" to the governers. Those little suckers could speed along easily at 40mph after our mechanic's had them for several months. For the local trip to the post office and country store, or almost 90% of my fishing here they would be perfect. A few years ago the Island of Santa Catalina was giving away free Burro's and goats to anyone who had over an acre of land and would provide controlled access and population growth. Several of the people up here I guess as a lark got some. But within two years the ferrule dogs and mountain lions had killed all but one. That last one died when a do gooder thinking the animal was hungry gave it one of the 1 pound tubes of dry uncooked and hydrated Quaker Oat meal. The animal of course eat it and then drank, well I don't think I need to say more. I was unpleasant. I hear ya though, its beginning to effect my plans for comming trips outside my little valley here where Amtrac, Airfare and of course gasoline is now becomming a very major consideration. Thus far in the past two years Ive switched from Propane home heating to Electric. This last week I finished switching from propane to Electric Cooking, (wood stove backup for power outages). We are going down to the big city tomorrow to price and perhaps pickup an electric water heater to replace our propane one. If its a done deal then I will be all electric by the middle of next month. The cost of Electric power to do the same things as propane here is only 1/3 and tied to the price of natural gas which is the major sourse of power plants here in California. As such that price is about 1/3 of the relative cost of propane or home heating oil here. Guess we are going electric here. Richard |

$4.05 at Cumbys. Every place in town is over $4.00 now. The river I fish most for trout is 15 miles away, not too bad but I was checking out my Delorme
maps yesterday and looking at Google earth and as it turns out there is a fine looking river about 7 miles from me. A call to the dept. of inland fisheries
confirmed that there are wild Brook Trout in there so I'm going on a scouting mission today to have a closer look

$3.899 in Lawrence, KS; $3.999 in Olathe, KS; $3.799 in Belton, MO
Those are the three places I normally travel to and from. I feel like I was violated each and every time I put gas in my cars. Andy |

Another update, we left for Bakerfield this morning, the cheapest gas around Lake Isabella for regular unleaded was $4.49.9, arriving in Bakerfield some 75
miles to our west in California's central valley we found the cheapest unleaded gas to be offered by Arco at $4.39.9 and filled up. Went about are business
and upon returning home at 5:30pm this evening found our same station had now posted this evenings regular unleaded price to be $4.59.9
Richard a crazy note here, I had to make a trash run this morning, we don't get home pickup. I went by that same gas station this morning around 9am and the price is now $4.64.9, seems its going up over $.10 a day now, if that holds true to the end of the month we will be between $6-$7 a gallon before months end. Hay Andy, the dump pickup plant is on the other side of the lake from me, (54 miles of shoreline) so I drive half way around. I was sort of shocked to not see any boats on over 100 square miles of open water so I started counting the boats in use on the lake, and I could see the whole area with that 180 degree drive this morning, there were only 9 total boats on the lake today. Normally even on weekdays and not yet summer vacation time there are at least 10 times that many. Fact is there are far more in the dead of winter than I saw today. I also noticed the lakeside campgrounds and resorts were litterally empty as well. Ouch. gonna be a long dry summer in alot more ways than one for the local businesses. ff4gt

Another update, had to go into town today for some supplies. Passed my local lowball unbranded gas station, currently regular unleaded is $4.79.9 a gallon.
Isabella is the other loop 1/4 way around the lower quarter of the lake and views out continuously on about 80% of the lake area. This morning at 9am there
were less than 8 boats on the lake with over 100 square miles of surface area visible. Campgrounds were empty too. While in the grocery store I overhead the
local full time checkers talking about the summer help was gonna start seeing layoffs if the turist don't start showing up. Isabella is our biggest town
around the lake and it was almost like a winter day with the lack of people moving about. Looks like the high price og gasoline is finally showing real effects
here to the local businesses.

I'm in New York State, our state motto should be, "Keep working and paying taxes, millions on welfare are depending on you". We pay the
highest taxes/gal in the nation at 44.5 cents NYS state tax/gal +18.45 cents federal tax/gal = 62.9 cents /gal in taxes. Alaska has the lowest state tax/gal at
a whooping 8 cents/gal (Source:http://commonsensejunction.com/notes/gas-tax-rate.html hey, I read it on the internet so it must be true.)

...I live in central NY... Syracuse area... paying about the same as Scooter... maybe a few cents to a nickle less if I burn 2-3 gallons shopping around for a
good price... I prefer to drive to the E and W branches of the Delaware River which is approx 100 miles and the spring creeks of central PA which is approx 280
miles from home... I've cut back on eating, stopped drinking wine, cut out cigars, stopped all house repairs, patch my clothes, and darn my own socks in
order to continue purchasing gas to go fishing...... a man's gotta have priorities!!....... and for my wife's birthday this year, I'm gonna take
her fishing.....
...AND to reduce my carbon footprint, I've melted down my remaining few graphite rods into a paperweight for the office (I used a magnifying glass and solar energy for heat) ...gosh, I'm sooo proud of myself... Bob |

$4.29 today. In other words an arm and a leg. Its over $5 n I-15 between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. I calculated it would cost me close to $50 to go to the
nearest trout stream (small high desert water) to catch 6" fish.

Well another update, just got home late last night from camping way up river under a waterfall, cool and cut the smoke from all the northern California forest
fires, plus fishing was good. Alas we now have a lightning strike fire just 50 miles north of home at Kennedy Meddows, very close to some great fishing. Also
when I got home we have a fire burning on the oposite side of the lake in the Piute Mountains so guess I will be staying home for awhile and fishing local just
in case. Oh, gas prices are now $4.89.9 today around the lake.

Alaska has oil money, which explains the low gas tax. They also have only a few roads. Gas here in PA is $3.99 and Toyota just announced they're gonna
start making Prius' in the US. I want one!
