Master Guide Posts: 373 (06/28/08 01:53:42) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	i love fishing pocket water with one small dry fly box loaded with olive and orange EH caddis flies (and maybe some small PT emergers). i use a fairly short leader and currently favor my 7'7" system 5 or my 8' 2pc 4wt diamondglass rod. i like to cover quite a bit of distance, climbing and bush-whacking. nothing better in my book. -mike

I love to camp and fish alone or with my son. I usually head up the creek until I get to the places that take real effort to fish. When I do see another angler he's usually after solitude too. I like a 3 or 4 wt., 7-7.5'. Lately it's been the McFarland 7'9" 4 wt. but there are several rods I like to fish. Most often I try dry flys first but I enjoy fishing wets about the same.

I enjoy reading everybody's favorite fishing : ) Here is mine, I grow up in the mountain, and I love backpacking! Backpacking and fishing in mountain creeks is my favorite fishing type. My rod selection would be Lamiglas - spring creek 3wt 6'6. But current version is 2 pieces. If I can find something 5 pieces that would be even better. yes... Not only to properly lead the fish, but also to avoid the drag of the waves and the wash Ideal conditions of bright sun, clear water and light surf are the exception rather that the rule, but when everything comes together, it just like "a day at the beach" Unfortunately, this kind of fishing is best done with graphite I use an overlined 10' IM6 8wt, the extra length being quite useful for mending over the top of breaking waves

Something about that cold, clear water and fish rising just does it for me. I have to live in the real world when at home and can not go without my regular fix of fly fishing which consists of bass and gills and crappie as the mainstays. A classic glass rod/reel combo, my float tube and a hand full of go to flies and I'm as happy as the proverbial clam. I also enjoy thinking and reading about those places and techniques that I have yet to try but are on my "to do" list. This board gives me new items to add to my list on a regular basis with all of the wonderful posts of fish and places that I never knew of. Doug

First...I'm with Mark on the idea of hiking into the back country for trout in streams and lakes. The Japanese yellow Fenwick Continental Tourer worked great for this last summer in Montana. Second...there is something about catching big trout on small midge flies. The 7 1/2 foot four weight Lamiglass does great work for this.

When I was a kid I fished any pond I could get to on my bike and my weapon of choice was a 5ft ultralight spinning rod. Now I use a fly rod and fish from a kayak but still favor the same kinda places I loved as a kid. Now if I had to choose just one rod, it would be a Phillipson Swampfox DF76 Deluxe 6wt. Waynbh

I don't really have a favorite. Although I fish warmwater the most, I still enjoy fishing mountain streams & lakes for trout, and though I don't have much experience on saltwater, I enjoy that too. For me, fishing is a package deal, the solitude, learning to read water and where the fish are most likely to be, the challenge of putting the fly where I want it, and tricking a wild animal into eating something that isn't real. Fortunatley, I can get that out of fishing for anything from bluegill to brown trout. As far as the rod goes, it doesn't matter as long as it's smooth, slow, & fiberglass.
