Hello everyone,
It's been quite a while since I've posted a rod build. My wife and I had our first child in January (Sophia) so things have been crazy. I managed to
finally get this rod finished and it will be my main bass rod from the kayak. Jann's netcraft 8' light spinning e-glass blank (comes labeled as a
5/6wt fly blank), fenwick style grip, black DL aluminum seat, mini fighting butt stained with 2 coats of minwax polyshades, then 2 coats of spar, Forecast
single foot ceramic guides to help casting in dirty bass water. The rod is wrapped in gudebrod dark brown with goldenrod tipping at the winding check,
14", 16", and 18" measuring marks done with a single inlay of the goldenrod thread. Finish is 5 coats of permagloss for a nice low build but
rock solid finish and the rod is still on the stands as I just did the 5th coat 1 hour ago. Here's the pics.

I really like the goldenrod trim with the dark brown thread and in some light the wraps almost look like garnet. Nice.

Forgot to mention that it is a staggered ferrule as I cut 6" from the butt section to make it a 7'6". This actually made it a bit more powerful
so it should be more of a 6/7wt now.

Very nice Lou! I like the grip/seat/fb configuration and the measuring marks look cool! Hopefully you will have time to test it soon on the water.

Good looking rod, nice job. I was told by someone that the Jann's E-glass blanks were built by Batson, but I don't know that for sure.

Thanks everyone. LArry I would say that the 8' version is for sure a true 5/6. The shortened version cast great with a WF7F, but not so great with a WF6F
Headstart which is like a bass bug taper. Too much weight up front and the tip wouldn't handle it.
These blanks are very similar to the Forecast E-glass so it wouldn't surprise me and the fact that it is a 2 pc is great since the Batson's are all 1 pc. The ferrule is a standard tip over butt. HTH, Lou |

Hey Mike,
The model # is 297104. It's the last blank listed in the Jann's on-line catalog under Tubular Fiberglass Blanks. They also have another 2 pc blank in a 6.5' model rated as a medium action and medium power rod. Would probably make a killer short 8wt for bass bugging or southern florida mangrove fishing. This blank was a steal for the measly $12 it cost. HTH, Lou |

Hey Allan,
Size 12 stripper, 1 size 8 single foot and size 6 single foot to the tip. I use 8 guides on 7.5 foot rods, not the usual 9 guides that most use on graphite. HTH, Lou |
