Nice fishes!!!
That's a beautiful bluegill and the largies pretty sweet too! I just got back from hanging out at a buddy's cigar shop. Was talking to this guy about his upcoming bonefish trip -- one thing lead to another and we end up in the parking lot throwing his 9wt Loomis GLX. I jokingly asked him if he'd like to try some old school technology. He said why not and so I went to my truck and pulled out my Shakespeare FY B 520. We had a chuckle over the metal ferrules but then his jaw dropped when I threw the whole line (minus approx. 9ft) with the old white stick. More a testament to the rod than my casting, I could use a lesson or six. He tried it and couldn't quite get the timing down but it definitely made an impression on him. That's a beautiful old Presidential. What model?

Notice the fly on the cheek of the second bass. I've been killing them with that fly. it is kinda a clouser/seaducer/deceiver clone, but i have caught
white and black bass, crappie and brim on it; its tied on a #6 hook-p-

Super cool, I can still only dream about bass up here. Say P, what is your tecnique when using that fly?? I have a tough time when fishing sub-surface
detecting strikes. Do you just strip fast?? Watch the line twitch?? Help out a fellow old guy here.

Very Nice P.....got a recipe for that fly?

Keith; I use a loop knot which helps because when you jerk the fly will turn right or left, then suspend; that when i get 90% of my hits, when the fly is
suspended and slowly sinking. I fish it with a florecarbon furled leader; this prevents the floating line from jerking the fly to the surface. So I kinda
alternate; jerk,jerk,jerk, pause; I try to pause it where i think there might be a bass; course this is in water 18 inches to 3 foot deep; I might make three
real short jerks, then pause, or 3 long jerks and pause; its usually dictated by how badly my accuracy was in geting the fly where i wanted it. We have a lot
of vegetation, so we pretty much know where the ambush points are for the bass. However, i caught the biggest bass today, while i was lighting a cig;
so..........maybe it was the long pause!!!!!!!!!!-p-

Pearow, you must know that lighting a smoke--always do it after the cast--is one of the best ways to get a strike from a nice fish. You get even bigger fish if
you go to take a leak (not over the side, of course) using a jar brought for that purpose. This is the true reason for using heavy fly reels on panfishing
outfits. When you lay them down in the boat to go, the weight of the reel makes it less likely that the fish will yank the whole outfit overboard. It also
used to be a counterbalance to the requuisite lean, but the jar has now replaced that eco-unfriendly practice.
As a side point, Crappie fishing--since they are usually very subtle takers--is one of the best ways to learn to fish slow and detect subsurface hits by watching the line on a slow, slow, slow, pulsing retrieve. Watch for a slight change in the line's pace, lift up, and old papermouth is there. Flies like the one above work great; I usually use size 8 or 10 simple hair wings with a tinsel body--red and white, mickey finn, or gray squirrel tail.
