Nice mirror carp. We don't see too many of those! Great fish!

I hooked a 22" carp on a caddis nymph in a deep trough incidental to trout fishing yesterday and thought I had a monster brown for about a minute. What a
tussle on the Diamondglass 8'6" 4wt!

Keith...great looking Washington carp. Hopefully Madi-Sue will forgive you soon.
Yeti...did you land your carp? Sounds like an interesting tussle. |

Is the second carp a leather carp? It looks like one I caught last year. The leather carp look to have no scales.

Cameron, Yes, the fish was landed and luck played a major role. The fish was hooked in a deep trough with very shallow riffles upstream and down so it
didn't have a lot of room to run. Was basically a slugfest and the rod soaked up all the carp's energy and protected 5x.
Magicwrech, apologies, I didn't intend to hijack your thread. |

The first carp I ever caught only weighed about 5 pounds...I thought I had foul hooked a nuclear sub by the tail. I don't think I ever had such a fight.
I'll bet both of those made your hair stand on end. They're ugly critters, but pound for pound, nothing I've ever caught in fresh water was their
fighting equal.

majicwrench nice fish..I just started fishing with an old 1495. I was wondering what methods you use trying to slow down a carp like that with a medalist.
Obviously you can't palm it and those fish make crazy runs. Do you just let them run? and then apply pressure or do you put finger pressure on the line
when it's flying out? I have them in my home waters here and am going to try for them soon. Any tips appreciated. Again, great catches!
