several rodmakers put the Herter's label on their rods including St. Croix. $35.00 sounds mighty fine - the rods looks to be in great shape.

Nice looking rod and worth the money. The reel seat looks a little like a Heddon to me but can't say for sure. |

The real seat cap has Herters stamped on it. Does anyone know what line wt. this rod could be?

That is a pretty rod. I don't have any information on line wt, but having been in a similar situation, I'd start with a 6-7 wt on the lawn and go up
or down from there (usually up in my experience), based on your preference. Often a 'glass rod will cast several wts, but one will work better for the
combination of the rod and you.

Thanks for the information. Going to lawn cast it tonight with different lines. I will also take it out this weekend on a bass fishing trip with my fly club.

I checked my 1976 Herters catalog. The code (RB6GO) indicates it was a blank. It was a "Browntone Precision Hollow Glass Blank" per the
description rated as a dry fly or streamer action. Weight of the blank was 2-1/2 oz. It was a "5 or 6 wt." and sold for $6.57.

Dave, Thanks for the info. I looked at it again last night and was thinking someone built this rod. It is a nice little rod and for $35 it is going to be
fished. I think I will put a six wt line on it for fishing small poppers for bass. Thanks, Bill

You have a very nice rod there. My dad and I made a pair of those from kits as a father/son project somewhere in the late 50's. He eventually gave his to my wife. I've worn 3 sets of guides off mine. I still fish it from time to time--too many rods to choose from now! They sold them ready to fish as well as kits and blanks. The winding check at the grip in your picture is different from mine but the reel seat and blank are the same. Fish it--you'll like it. I like mine with a WF 6 wt for roll casting nymphs with lead. In CPI inflation terms something that cost $6.57 in 1957 would cost $49.60 in 2007 so you did get a bargain. Dick |

Thanks for the information. I put a 6wt bass taper on it for throwing poppers. Tried it this weekend, but the wind was out of control and nothing happening
on top. Used another rod (nonfiberglass) 7wt. with a sink tip for two small bass. Had a ton of trouble holding my pontoon in position to fish. Plan to fish
it on the first weekend of May in the Sacramento Delta. Bill
