This forum is a fantastic resource, I wanted to thank everyone for sharing so much info..it has been helpful. I was referred by FAOL when I asked a question about fiberglass rods. I am interested in fishing with fiberglass but just was looking for a good suggestion on what a first timer should try. It all seems rather "hit or miss" so I wanted to narrow down my options. Wanted to get a rod 8' or under that would throw 5-7wt line. I don't have much money but maybe I'll get lucky if I keep an eye out. I have a rod for trade if anyone is looking for anything (redington crosswater rod, bit dinged on the cork but nice medium rod 4pc 9' 5/6wt) or if anyone has something they want to get rid of I'd appreciate a pm. Thanks for the introduction. If you lived close to me you could try all of my rods. Perhaps there is someone near you who will consider the same. One rod to consider is the Fenwick in the sizes you mentioned. Lots of them are on the ebay and maybe someone here has something. I have been catching a few small bass and bluegill lately, trying out rods and reels I bought over WInter. Welcome to the forum. Paul

In new rods, there are some good options from builders like Mike McFarland, Mark Steffen, and Terry Johnson. But in "previously loved" rods on eBay, your cup runneth over. One place to start your search is our Fiberglass Fly Rod Wiki. Go to the Wiki Links post and you will have links to information pages about the current glass rod builders and their products. We also have several pages on classic rods. Some of the pages are fairly complete (Shakespeare, Orvis), and others are fairly empty (too many). We're working on it. But cruise through the Wiki and you should get a feel for some of the options. If you are looking for an "all purpose" Fenwick, the FF806 is hard to beat. You can fish it 6 weight and 7 weight lines. Not too short, not too long. The FF756 is very common on eBay, and often sells for a nice price. I think it's a great rod with a WF7 line. For a heftier, 8 foot, 7 weight that will also fish with a WF8 for bass bugs, the FF807 often sells cheap on eBay. Tom

IMO, this is the place to find out about the Fiberglass rods. Most of the people on this Site are more than willing to share their knowledge. Just be aware that owning/buying these glass rods and vintage reels is very addictive, and there's no known cure! (LOL) Time is precious. Waste it wisely! Barry

There is a wealth of knowledge here and many of use are more than willing to help with any questions you might have. I may be at the Rocky River outing on the 29th, but I'm not 100% sure yet that I can make it up. If I do, I'll be using my Wonderod for the Steelies, and you would be more than welcome to cast it. It's looking like it might. If you make it I would love to cast that wonderod. I went through a stretch of buying and building graphite rods and quickly amassed enough to outfit a small boy scout troop..ha! but I realized I kept going slower and slower action wise because to me that was a more enjoyable way to fish. Built a 6wt FishEagle Traditional graphite that was very close to what I was looking for. Fiberglass was always on my mind and I finally just decided to give it a try...I may have a wonderod coming found someone that just doesn't want it (has no interest in fiberglass and wants to give it to someone who will use it) he will send it to me if I cover the shipping. The part of the label has the model is scratched off so I don't know what to expect, but, can't really be picky if it's being given to me.
