I am a new board member who is looking to buy a small stream rod for my home waters here in Wyoming. I was thinking of going with a 3wt in the 7'-7'6" range. I would prefer it to be at least a 3 piece (maybe even a 4). I originally was looking at a Trout Bum from Orvis (I know it's not fiberglass) because I can get it at a heavy discount. I realized that it is a bit too fancy of a rod for me.
After doing some research, I read some articles that state that fiberglass rods fish "better" than graphite rods in the size that I want. Mostly I just want a rod that I can be easily packed up and hiked along streams that most people don't fish. For me fishing has never been a fashion show so looks (exotic wood etc.) aren't really important. I want something that is under $300 that fishes not too horribly fast that can handle getting lead through small thickets on the way to beaver ponds and nice rills.
Thanks,
Michael
