Back in December of last year I ran into Ed Shenk at a fly shop in his hometown of Carlisle, PA. I told him how much I regretted not buying one of his little
rods back when they were available. He said that he hadn't made them in years and that the only one he had left was his personal rod which was unusual in
that it was a two-piece. I jokingly told him that if he ever wanted to part with it that I would be very interested.

Last week I was amazed to receive a letter from Ed saying...

Hello
Thanks Duff.
It's not about the finish it's all about the Form Fit and Function the finish is mostly just for looks.
It seems the trend is all about the finish lately and much less about the feel.
I would bet Ed was more interested in keeping the finish as light as possible !
I think the rod is just glorious !!

Thanks, Andy. Yes, it does have a lot of punch for a little rod and I was surprised at the line it could put out without a haul. I agree, I like to see
hand-done inscriptions by the maker. Ed left little doubt when the rod was made - he simply dated it on the rod 5/30/99.

As you can see, Ed's rod is not beautifully finished, but still elegant in its simplicity, a purposeful tool that was meant to be fished. I kind of like
that.

Hello
You are very fortunate to own such a fly fishing treasure.
I especially like the hand scripting on the rod.
In my opinion all custom rods should be hand scripted personally by the maker, decals while neat are for factory made production rods.
I find your comments on the rods action interesting, I bet the rod has plenty of punch !
If you will Please show a photo or 2 of the ferrule and tip top ??

Corlay, you're right - it doesn't really matter, but to answer your question, at first I thought it was a just too stiff, but I think I just had to get
use to its unique action. Having never cast one of Ed's rods before, I guess I was thinking that it might be similar to the FF60 which can make extremely
