Coming home from a funeral (250 miles away) yesterday, I stopped in a small town at a yard sale. There were several rods there, some with reels & some
without, both fly and spinning rods. I asked the owner what he wanted for them. He said "$5 without a reel, $10 with". So I latched on to a Silaflex
Medallion MF90SH-2, 9' GAF in great condition. Just missing the hook keeper. The one thing that bothers me is that it is 9' 1" in length, not
9' or 9' 1/2"....

Nice find Richard. I know what you mean by the odd length. I have a Fenwick build using the old yellow Grizzly blanks that is supposed to be 8' but is
actually 7'9". The grip appears to be especially long and the tip is a bit shorter than the butt section. The puzzling thing is that the tip
doesn't look like it was ever broken and it appears to have the original wrap, exactly the same as the other guides. It casts a 6 wt just fine and feels
great, but I know that if I tried...

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over the extra inch, particularly because both sections are the same length. Silaflex did stuff like that. They made an
F75-2 rod that was 7'8" long. I have an MF90-2 (the non steelhead version). Both pieces are the same length and the rod is 109" when assembled.

Keith, keep trying. Someday that is going to work.

Keith
Send me a check for $300 to cover shipping and handling and I'll send back what I don't spend. Looking at the reel seat & grip I would say that it
was used just not abused. The writing is almost wore off but still readable. They sold a 9' 1/2" rod so this could be a fluke. Come to the Oregon
Clave and I'll let you touch it. I will try to get some photos up later but I'm going camping this week.

That extra inch marks it as a production blem, those were very prone to early breakage, hence it's lack of use. Send it my way and I will stress it good
for a year or two and then send it back if it passes the tests.
