I just cranked out a few of these for an upcoming trip to northern NM. The stoneflies have started to hatch on the Cimarron, and it should be pretty good next
week. Unfortunately, I only get to fish one day.

I wanted to come up with a pattern that was a bit different from what these educated fish usually see. There aren't a lot of fast riffles, so the hackle
is clipped on the bottom to make the fly ride lower. The gold (with a hint of orange) dubbing and brown thread rib are a...

The guy at the flyshop in Red River said they released water the day we got there (Tuesday). The Cimarron was still running high and brown on Thursday. And
that wind was brutal. All of those conditions didn't make it conducive for my son to do much fishing. He did spend a great deal of time untangling line
though. I only made about 10 casts--trying to help him. He did have a little brown take a stonefly nymph, but he didn't set the hook. But we both got a
good look at it. We'll...

The fly worked pretty well in spite of the fact that I didn't see any stoneflies hatching. It was a very windy day and the flow was high. I caught more
than 10 brown trout and a couple small rainbows. At least half of them took the dry. The only problem was that the fly tended to tip over on it's side
until the body absorbed a little bit of water. I need to figure out how to get the...

Beauty! I have not fished the Cimarron for years and years. I really enjoyed it when i was there. The trout sure seemed educated! If you have not taken a
look, the historic St. James Hotel in Cimarron is a great side trip. A real piece of western history. Have a great trip to the Land of Enchantment. I hope
you can take and post some pix....I miss that part of the country. Catch some nice browns on that great looking stonefly.
