You know scud dog you have got me thinking ( some times this is no a good thing) I think I might just pick up an old fly rod and strip it then I will have the guides and all I would have to do is pick up a handle. It would make a great first rod. You might be on to something there.

My advice: save that Lami blank for your second or third project. The first rod NEVER turns out right. I suggest you go to Jann's Netcraft and buy the cheapest blank, guides and seat you can for the first rod. If you're good...GOOD! If you're like me, you'll donate your first build to a Scout troop.

There is no cure for fiberglass attachment syndrome, the only way to deal with it once hooked is to obsessively purchase every glass rod and rod building part you run across until you are broke and living in a sea of fiberglass, cork and parts! Welcome to rod builders hell.

OK Fango I can tell a wolf in sheeps clothing ( live in north Idaho so I really can tell a wolf) yea like your an apprentice you speak with forked tongue ( did any one else see those pictures of the fantastic rod he built and calls himself an apprentice and this is his first lami one right) OH you are a sneeky bunch trying to set me up like that. Now there is no way I can build a rod that pretty but you set me up to keep spending money and get tools. Have you all no pitty this is crule...

One more tip that has been mentioned on other threads, but bears repeating.... be very careful about rod racks. They make it too easy to count! I made that mistake. I'd only recommend a rod rack for storage if it holds rods in the tubes. That way, you can slip more than one rod in a tube.

Once you reach "critical mass", you're fine.

critical mass - when you have so many rods that your wife can't tell that you've bought another rod or reel....

Hey whoa there pal. It isn't our fault that you have joined us on the dark side. We are only enablers, you are the one with the warped obsession.

Couple of hints to hide the obsession:
1) Burn all receipts.
2) Run a rod swap or donation. That way there is no way for the missus to figure out what you ordered or what is being sent for the swap/ donation.
3) Deny, deny, deny.

I got all my stuffs from Angler's Workshop because they ship international. They even sent me their catalog. So much things I wanted to buy, but so little money to spend..

Head for your local library and check out a book on rod building (Dale Clemens Fiberglass Rod Making and Advanced Custom Rod Building are good ones). Read the book from cover to cover. Check out a couple more. While you are reading these, get the catalogs from Mudhole and
