I used to try to collect knives. I was not interested in those artsy looking things that weren't capable of holding an edge or looked like they would fall apart if used. It had to be the real thing. A tool. It could be beautiful, but it had to be a real knife. Problem was, I could not not use one. At least once. Use the rod. It's what it's for. I would never want to take the time to build something like a knife or fishing rod and find out someone thought it too pretty to use....

Oh, NO! I didn't think you would actually USE that mint Silaflex. Surely you are using plastic wrap on the grip... aren't you?

I am looking forward to getting out and doing some bass bugging . That looks like a very fine setup. I really love the silaflex rods but find the grip a bit big for my hands too.

I generally like smaller diameter grips on my trout rods but for bass buggin, I like a bigger grip. Now I if I could change anything about this grip, it would be to make it shorter. I have med size hands, and the length of the cork is about 2" longer than necessary for me. I like the old style grips they used on bamboo rods roughly 6-7 " long with the thumb rest and flared head.

The grip is a little to bulky for my taste, but I just deal with it. I would rather not sand it down since it is somewhat vintage.

How do you feel about the grip size on that rod? I've often thought about a little bit of sanding and shaping, but maybe that's just me...

Got out on the water with the rod this weekend for a few hours. I must say, I am really liking this rod. It is a very smooth caster. The rod handled medium weighted Clousers very easily using an elliptical cast as well as tossing air resistant poppers with ease. I like the way the rod flexes to the cork with even a little Smallmouth on the line.

Great rod! I fish it a couple times a year and I am always surprised by its lauching power when you slow down and take it easy.

I'm with Joe 100% on this one. It's a really great rod for a 7 weight line. The cork insert seat was only made for a year or two in the mid 70s, so they appear very rarely on eBay or the For Sale board.

An awesome rod that matches perfectly with a Pat Elhers Bass Bug taper line in 7wt - in fact it's my favorite smallmouth bass rod. I use a Pflueger 1495 on mine. You'll be well served - great choice! BTW - I love the reel seat on your rod. I haven't seen the cork insert type before...

Just added a another bass rod to my glass arsenal. The 322980 matched up with a Martin 67 SS. This is gonna be a great summer! Thanks Duff.
