Medalist?

Also, what age did you start your kids casting a fly rod?

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers, Pete

The problem is, he has a really nice cast. He picks up a fly rod 3-4 times a year and throws these nice tight loops. I fish at least once a week and am all

I built a pair of 4 pc 4wt rods for my kids when they were around 9 or 10 and turned the grips a little smaller to fit their hands. For reels I picked up a
pair of Daiwa Lochmor standard arbor spring & pawl reels (one S100 and the other a S200) for about $20 each. Great reel for the price, though somewhat
hard to find. I ordered mine through a flyshop in Canada, Green Highlander I believe.

Good Luck

I had my first son doing a little casting from around 3 - it was really just playing, but planted the seed.

When he was about 8 he had a couple lessons with a friend who teaches casting, the idea being the boy might pay more attention if the info was coming from
someone other then me.
it turned out to be a good plan and really helped him get interested in how casting works.

With the rod & reel I've gone for the smallest grips and lightest set-up I could find in 2...

Model 63 as well. You just can't beat the Model 60, 61, 62, or 63 as a starter reel.
