Johns suggestion of a bit more of a trim sounds like the best advice.
I wouldn't recommend heating the ferrules to fit though too much can go wrong.
Are you planning on reinforcing the blanks under these metal ferrules ?
If so the suggestion of a second blank sounds like a good plan for either spigots or ferrule reinforcement.

Some ferrules indicate the male and female are the same ID and a few indicate the male is smaller.
