You know how you can never anticipate what will be wrong with a seemingly straight forward eBay deal, but you know there usually will be one? Well, I received
the case for the 3 piece1390 and all looked fine - clean case and reasonably nice labeled cap. Well, I put the 35"rod bag into the 36" case and of
course it didn't fit - 1" of rod sticking out. Turns out somebody had stuffed a wad of paper down to the bottom and it had absolutely fossilized into
cement over the...

I can't speak to Glaskyd's question. But I have a Presidential P1290 which according to the Wiki was made in 1960-1. It also has the ribbed aluminum
tube. I can't confirm it is original to the rod. But suspect that it is.

This: 390023272802 8' 2Pc Heddon Deluxe FG seems to have the same kind of tube and the tube is longer than the 1290/1380 tubes. I considered asking the
seller if the tube was original. But I am not planning on bidding on that particular fly rod.

Someone told me that those ribbed aluminum tubes were used in manufacturing airplanes during WWII, and were available cheap in the late '40s and early
'50s as Army Surplus. Does anyone know whether this is true? If so, it would explain why the Shakespeare 1290 and 1390 fishing rods have what seems like
overkill for their rod tubes.

Glad you were able to pick up the tube at a good price. It is good to have one original to the rod.

Perhaps an original bag will eventually turn up.

Gaddis, you were right about the case. I just got one to fit my three piece 1390 for $12.50 + $6.00 shipping. I like the rod and thought it deserved to get
its case back. Thanks for the tip, StippledPopper.

I'd say roughly $75 give or take. I happen to like this rod quite a bit. I use it for bass-bugging with a WF9 line on it. $100 is definitely way
too steep for the tube. You should be able to find a tube for a fraction of that. These tubes are very strong but also unecessarily heavy.

Boo

The 8'6" 1390 is pretty hefty and will wear your arm out. With any wear on them they don't tend to sell for very much... way less than $100.

Nice 1390.
The Ridged Tubes on the 1390, 1290, and P1290 Wonderods ARE very sturdy. The socks are also nicer than the socks on any other Wonderods I have(Brass balls on
the end of the draw strings for one thing).

The tubes come up for bid on eBay every now and then. There is a tube...

Boo, a friend of mine recently bought a 1290 with tube and sock from a dealer for about $100. I think the 1290 is a shorter rod so it might bring a little
more than the 1390. I bought this three piece 1390 this past summer for about $30 but without a tube or sock and thought I got a great deal. It weighs
exactly 5 oz on my postal scale so yours should be a touch lighter. For what it's worth, the dealer said that the case (that neat one with the ridges) is
probably worth $100. By the...
