Christmas Crappie painting

Today after working on the snowblower, probably not successfully, I sat down to finish a white crappie. My niece and I always get each other a gift that usually ends up being more gag then gift. Since she has moved to an apartment I thought this crappie would be nice for her. She loves crappies, both catching and eating.
It's nice painting a spawning male crappie on a cold dreary day, makes spring seem a little closer.

Today Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery held it's annual Spawning Spectacular. A great educational event attended by many conservation and restoration organizations. I belong to the Friends of Craig Brook and I had the very important job of parking cars. I did get some relief and got around to get some pictures and watch some of the Spectacular Spawning

this may be an unfair comparison, but i am in the process of purchasing - i think - an abercrombie & fitch 7 1/2 foot 'firehole' ( essentially a phillipson 'peerless' i believe ) and because most of my experience is with phillipson glass ( MF60 and MF70 ) i wondered if anyone has ever fished this rod and how it compares with the feel of glass. another thing to consider is that a lot of my fishing is done in the subsurface and whether that is a consideration i should factor...
